Italy Holidays : Liguria, Milano Marittima and Puglia

June 25, 2017 By lollipop

The beauties of Liguria

The Northwestern part of Italy consists of many coastal regions and Liguria is one among them. The main cities in the area include Genoa, Finale Ligure, Imperia, La Spezia, Moneglia, Portofino, Rapallo, San Remo, Santa margarita Ligure, Savona, Sestri Lavente, Ventimiglia and Vernazza. Some of the other destinations worth seeing are La Riveria di Lavente and Cinque Terre. The people who had initially inhabited the land were known as ligurs. Furthermore, the name of the land became Liguria. The town can be described as a resort town on the side of the sea with rocky beaches. Genoa has the largest port in the region. Olive oil is produced on a large scale in the region, and they are claimed to be of much better quality than the ones produced in Tuscany.

Getting into the land is also pretty straightforward. An international airport is present on the Genoa city. Some of the domestic and low budget airlines land on Villa nuova di Albenga Airport. Railways and highways also link the land. Train journeys are highly appreciated. This is mainly attributed to the amount of tunnels present on a specific railway line. The same can be experienced while taking the highways too. The transition from darkness into sunlight with the sea spreading about on one side is really a spectacular view never to be missed at any cost.

Ligurian food is world famous and most of the tourists get to experience the cuisines from the local hotels and eateries. Tagliatelle is available in multi forms. Torda di verdure is another specialty that is local in nature but known all over the world. This is basically a vegetarian dish that is made from herbs and borage. Since the area is nearer to the sea, seafood is also famous in these parts. Some of the common delicacies are listed below. Mushroom pie, Mussels which are stuffed using cheese and herbs, Orata with olive and potatoes, Gattafin and Soviore rice pie. Pesto sauce was first used and made famous in Liguria. Organizations have come forward to monitor the wine making process and one of the premiers among them is the Cooperativa del Gruppo Di Riomaggiore. Cinque Terre is also known for its world famous Sciacchetrà wine. Pigato and Vermentino are the other forms of wine that are found in Liguria. Despite the abundance of wines, red wines are not common in Liguria.

Milano Marittima

 Italy Holidays

Milano Marittima is one of the favorite destinations of jet setters. This is another lesser-known place often frequented by the elite and famous. Various nightspots are present in this place that was regularly visited by personalities. “Tourism of elite” that’s what Milano Marittima is often acknowledged as.

This place had its origins only recently. Another town, which is known as Cervia, was better known than Milano Marittima. This town’s population consists of about 9000 people. And their main economic revenue was from salt, agriculture and fishing. A brief insight into the history of the place is depicted. Romagna Riviera was the first place to be frequented by the elites. This was back in the 1800s. According to them the place was wild as well as fascinating. Malaria was prevalent in these parts then. After some years, railway lines were laid and brought forth a revolution in Cervia. Hygiene and sanitary conditions improved and facilities for bathing were first introduced in Cervia. Influential families from Milan began to take interest in the place and they had obtained permission to build a large area that was situated on the North of the canal. Milano Marittima society was founded then, for the maintenance of the Cervia beach. This society consisted of the elite only that included the famous artist Giuseppe Pallanti. He was the one who had actually worked real hard by even submitting a project for development of Milano Marittima and Cervia. His dream was a Garden City. The residences of the tourists should blend with the nature. This was his opinion. And it was realized later. Many villas were constructed especially by the famous and some of them can still be admired today. One of these includes Giuseppe’s Vacation villa too. The era from 1920-1930 saw an increase in further development of the area. And Milano Mirittima is the result of this.

One of the main attractions of the place was the House of Butterflies.  This was constructed with intention of educating the common public about the various species of butterflies present in various parts of the world. A 500-meter square green house has been specially constructed for the purpose. All the butterflies are a real feast to admirers and tourists alike. Like mentioned earlier the place is known for its nightspots. Mirabilindia is an amusement part situated in here. Tourists flock during the summer and spring seasons only.

Puglia

Puglia is commonly known as Apulia. It is a region that is in southeastern Italy and bordered by Adriatic Sea, Ionian Sea, Starit of Otranto and gulf of Taranto. Salento is known as the high heel of Italy’s boot. Population mounts to approximately 4 million. Greece and Albania are the other countries that share their border with Puglia. Puglia is divided into six provinces that are listed here. Bari, Barletta-Andria-Trani, Brindisi, Foggia, Lecce, Taranto. Archeologists have flocked in the area because of its rich findings. Old age Arab, Greek, Roman archeology can be found in plenty among the building present in here.

Industrial revolution was rapidly emerged in the region which once did farming for their revenue source. Olives, Grapes, Figs, Almonds and tobacco were their main agricultural products. Industrial products include cement, iron, steel, petrochemical, plastics and processed food. The wine manufactured in Puglia is also well known. Some of the people practiced fishing too. One of the haunting problems of Puglia was the scarcity of water and canals and aqua ducts were specially built in the region. Sele River waters the region. Tourism industry is developing at a faster pace on the region and enthusiasts commonly know Puglia as Italy’s Florida.

Politics is fairly right sided. Although majority of the population are rightists, once in 2005 communist rule was declared in the region. Nichi Vendola a well-known communist had won the elections back then. 2006 elections saw the rising of Silvio Berlusconi to power followed by People of Freedom in April 2008 elections. Like mentioned earlier, population has been stabilized on 4 million since the 1990s. During the 1980s, there was a huge drop of birthrate on the region and it was also claimed as the biggest drop in the history of Italy’s demographics.

Italian is spoken in here as the official language. Historical languages have also taken their part in the language bandwagon. This can be attributed to the varied and troubled history of the region. Neapolitan Languages are still preferred by the central and northern masses. The southern population prefers Sicilian language. Many in varied parts of the region also speak Griko that consists of a modernized version of Greek. Faetar is still preferred in Foggia. Some of the refugees who had claimed land in the region back in the 15th century spoke Albanian and handed over the language to the generations that followed.

Things to Carry While You Are On Winter Sun Holidays

June 6, 2017 By lollipop

Planning and executing a holiday may not be a simple chore. So, if you get an opportunity of a refreshing trip, never let it go. To beat the chilling and hostile winter, a warm vacation in sunny region itself sounds revitalizing. However, before it’s all set, let’s have a look on the essential things to pack in.

To start with, you need to carry an extra bag to fold and put the winter clothes as soon you step down at the sunny destinations. Most importantly, to make your entire journey a comfy one, stuff some light attires. Also, try to avoid carrying huge baggage while traveling.

lollipop Dubai Holidays

Mandatory Documents to Carry

While flying abroad, carry your identity proof, passport, tickets, and medical documents. Also, jostle your driving license into your handbag while you are on any trip.

Packing Appropriate Clothing

A sudden budge from a cold region to a warmer one may upset your regular habits. It goes without saying cramming a few warm clothes and rest comfortable dresses are smart enough. You will only need those warm dresses, while you take the return flight. For the entire trip, light clothes should be packed in to put you at ease. Avoid taking skinny dresses as these may rouse irritation and uneasiness while you are under the scorching sun.

Dresses of white shades or light hues help to beat the sun during the winter sun holidays. Make yourself as comfortable as you can. Crispy shirts go hand in hand with such travel destinations, and the best part is that you don’t need to press it while going out.

Dresses for Your Foot

Grab the airy sandals or slippers that are readily available in the market. For morning beach walk or meandering on the sugary white-beach side shops, these sandals are of great use. Nowadays, chic flip-flops are being mostly preferred by the tourists while embarking on winter sun holidays.

Swim Suit

Carrying swim suit is worthy if you are travelling on a beach or a sea-shore. However, an adventurous sun holiday in Africa or Egypt will not help you with the swim suit. If possible carry a waterproof pouch to keep your wallet or electronic gadgets while you spring into the refreshing water.

Sun Protection

Taking care of your skin, while enjoying winter sun holidays, is very vital. Also, shove in some lotions in your hand bag to protect you from harmful UV rays and sub-burn. Lastly, if you have any sort of phobia of insects, then better to toss some repealing sprays also in your shoulder bag.

Some Destination Tips for this summer to go:

Lefkosia (Nicosia) Cyprus

Cyprus
The city of Lefkosia (Nicosia) is a modern and sophisticated capital. At its heart is Old Lefkosia, scarred by the buffer zone or‘dead zone’that separates the south from the Turkish-controlled north. Cypriots and visitors with passports can cross the border at the long-established Ledra Palace checkpoint, just outside the old city walls, or at the more conveniently located checkpoint in the centre of the old quarter at the north end of Ledra (Lidras) Street, which was opened in 2008. At the same time, the inner city is, in places, a glorious evocation of times past, with its crumbling-and now increasingly restored- mud-brick and sandstone houses. These are jumbled in with mosques from whose minarets the faithful are summoned to prayer, Orthodox churches glimmering with lamps and icons, and Ottoman baths, inns and villas. For information, visit Lefkosia’s tourist Information office at 11 Aristokyprou Street, Laiki Geitonia .

GUIDED TOURS Walking tours are offered free of charge by the Lefkosia Municipality. They include: Walking Tour of Lefkosia (Thursdays); Chrysaliniotissa and Kaimakli -The Past Restored (Mondays); Lefkosia – Outside the Walls (Fridays). Tours in English depart 10.00 from the Cyprus Tourism Organisation office and take two hours.

Maderia

Madeira_Beach

Madeira’s economy Surrounded by such a deep and dangerous element, the people of Madeira have tended to turn their backs upon the sea, and the island’s tiny fishing fleets employ only a handful of hardy adventurers. Instead, most Madeirans make their living from the hard graft of agriculture, tending the land by hand because there is no space on the narrow terraces for machinery. Sugar, known as ‘white gold’.

early settlers rich until competition from New World plantations drove prices down. Today it is the yellow gold of bananas and the liquid gold of Madeira wine that sustain the island economy, along with tourism and handicrafts, including wickerwork and embroidery. Madeira also benefits from funds from so-called ‘emigrants’ – islanders who have gone abroad to seek their fortune working in the Venezuelan oil industry, or in shops, restaurants and hotels in Britain, South Africa or Australia. The money they send home to help their families is a very significant element in the island’s invisible economy and it explains why there are so many banks based in Funchal, competing against each other for the emigrants’ accounts.

MADEIRA IN FIGURES
Population: 245,000 (of whom 86 per cent live on the sunny south of the island, including 115,000 in the capital, Funchal). Area: 738sq km (285sq miles). Length: 56km (35 miles) east to west. Width: 23km (14 miles) north to south. Highest point: Pico Ruivo (l,862m/6,109ft). Sea depth: 6,000m (19,700ft) in the Canary Basin, which lies 83km (52 miles) to the west of Madeira.

Destinations to Go:

France :Beuvron -en-Auge

The population of Beuvron has fallen over the last sixty years, as young people have moved away to the towns and cities in search of work. As a result, the population of the village is getting older and there are increasingly fewer children in the village.

Fortunately, Beuvron is registered as one of the most beautiful villages in France, so the villagers are encouraging tourism as much as possible. More families are now offering bed-and-breakfast accommodation in their homes, and there are already numerous craft shops, a cafe, bar, two restaurants, a creperie and picturesque houses, which attract lots of tourists to the village each year.

Mexico Holidays

Much of Mexico is dry, and rain is eagerly awaited. More rain falls in the tropical south than in the north. The land in northern Mexico is arid because it lies in the so-called horse latitudes – belts of calm air where few rain clouds form. Further south, mountains near the Atlantic and Pacific coasts receive heavy rainfall, particularly on slopes facing wet, sea-borne winds. Less rain falls inland and on sheltered mountain slopes. Some parts of eastern and southern Mexico experience the opposite problem to that of the north – too much rain falls. Wild plants grow so well that farmers have to hack down growth to plant their crops. The rainforests in the far south have a long rainy season in summer, when showers fall every afternoon.

Republic of Cuba

The independent Republic of Cuba formed in 1902. The United States only handed over power to the new Cuban government after it agreed to give the Americans the right to build a naval base at Guantanamo Bay. Cuba prospered from sugar and American tourism in the early 1900s. However, Cuban leaders became corrupt.

Cuban president Fulgencio Batista (1901-1973) became a brutal dictator in the 1950s. Forces led by Fidel Castro invaded Cuba from Mexico in 1956 to fight Batista. The invasion failed, but Fidel Castro, his brother Raul, and Che Guevara escaped and hid in the mountains. They organized sneak attacks against Batista’s forces. When Batista fled in 1959, Fidel Castro took over.

Cuba is an amazing holiday place to visit for Brits. However it is not much popular because of the cost of long-haul flights.

A Little bit France

The French capital, Paris, has a population of 11 million. It is France’s largest city and its main cultural and business centre. Other major cities include Lyon, Marseille, Lille and Bordeaux. France is a world leader in industry, famous for its cars, aeroplanes and nuclear power. But it is perhaps better known for its glamorous fashion and perfume, its delicious wine, cheese and, of course, its bubbly champagne.

Facts About ITALY

Italy takes its name from a Latin word that means grazing, or where there were oxen. The Latin language is now a dead language that no one speaks. However, many Latin words have become part of English, French and other languages. Most people in Italy now speak Italian. This comes from a language that used to be spoken in Tuscany but which was changed by the Romans, who spoke Latin. Ita lia n government Italian people vote for politicians in their national parliament, which is called the Chamber of Deputies. There is also a Senate which, in some ways, is like the UK House of Lords. A difference is that Italian people vote for politicians in their Senate. The President is elected by politicians from the national and regional governments. The Prime Minister is appointed by the President Italy had a king until 1945 when the country became a republic.

South Asia : MALDIVES & SRI-LANKA

South Asia has many islands, including two island nations, Sri Lanka and Maldives. Sri Lanka lies off the southeastern tip of India and is about 64,750 square kilometres (25,000 square miles). The country was called Ceylon until 1972; the name Sri Lanka means ‘resplendent island’ in the Sinhalese language. Sri Lanka has been home to Buddhists and Hindus for many centuries, and during that time there have been violent struggles for power. When Sri Lanka was hit by a tsunami in 2004, the two groups put their differences aside and worked together to help the people. Once the crisis was over, however, the two sides began fighting again. The people of Sri Lanka have an excellent railway system that connects the island’s major cities. They also have of one of the best educational systems in South Asia. Ninety-six percent of Sri Lankans are literate, by far the highest rate in the region. In comparison, India’s literacy rate is just 60 percent.

Lollipop Holidays 2017 : Costa Tropical

May 31, 2017 By lollipop

Towards the eastern end of Costa Del Sol can be seen the vivacious Costa Tropical. Sub tropical climate makes this place heavenly like a paradise rich with fruits. From Avocadoes to mangoes, each variety is being cultivated in the natural way without any chemicals. Costa Tropical does not possess the lively lifestyle or enthusiasm with music as in neighborhood places. Three major resorts that are famous in Costa Tropical are the stupendous Almunecar, lovely Salobrena and gorgeous Motril. These resorts do serve facilities but they have been very careful about maintaining their traditional styles whatsoever.

Almunecar is now the most visited resort in Costa Tropical along with the nearby resorts. Now the results have hands full due to the immense customers coming in each year. International airport is near to Costa Tropical that also leads to a wide range of customers from various places to Costa Tropical. Each and every time the resorts tries to be specific and pulls a rabbit out of a hat to impress their customers. Both sun and sea can be thoroughly enjoyed from the city of Granada. Sierra Nevada ski resort is an added beauty to the Costa Tropical. Moreover, the magnificent Alpujarras showers beauty to Costa Tropical in all ways during the summer and the winter.

Lollipop Holidays

Almunecar old portion consists of narrow streets that are cobbled and they are enthroned with the vestiges of a Moorish Castle. The bright and colorful street markets portray the beauty of the nearby plains. Fruits and lychees hang in bunches that really surprises the viewers. The coastline spreads to an extended area possessing a large number of beaches. Among these, include the shielding cloves and tiny rocky bays. Costa tropical has a lively marina near to the Herradura. Water sports and other expeditions are being held here splendidly. Salobrena is the best among the three resorts that is amazingly beautiful and stupendous. Travelers gambol for other destinations find themselves involuntary to bypass Salobrena.

The town here is whitewashed that seems to be unexplainable to the viewers. The nature seems to talk in riddles setting out in beauty. Sierra Chaparral Mountain ranges engross the tourists to stay at sight for about an hour. Then comes the sea and then the fields that are packed with fruits of various types. Motril is near to Costa Tropical, which is more of a commercial town. Shopping expeditions are made true in this city with ease.

Things to Carry While You Are On Winter Sun Holidays

Planning and executing a holiday may not be a simple chore. So, if you get an opportunity of a refreshing trip, never let it go. To beat the chilling and hostile winter, a warm vacation in sunny region itself sounds revitalizing. However, before it’s all set, let’s have a look on the essential things to pack in.

To start with, you need to carry an extra bag to fold and put the winter clothes as soon you step down at the sunny destinations. Most importantly, to make your entire journey a comfy one, stuff some light attires. Also, try to avoid carrying huge baggage while traveling.

Visit Spain

Spain is the ultimate destination for the connoisseurs of cuisine. Spanish recipes have attained world wide recognition over the past decade. Be it the traditional delights or the international cuisine, the culinary abilities of Spanish chefs match the best among the world.Lollipop 2017 Holiday Ideas

What makes them so special? It could be the wisdom imparted from the ancient Moorish culture or the quality of products from the modern world. Or it could even be the intelligent reinterpretation of traditional recipes by the modern day chef. Whatever it may be, the Spanish dishes remain rich both in quality and variety. Spanish food entertains both vegetarians and non-vegetarians equally.

With its location near Mediterranean sea, Spain offers uncompromising fish delicacies. The marine life offers a variety of fishes, octopus, squids, etc. Galician style octopus and grilled squid are local favorites. Majority of the Spanish dishes are not spicy. Paprika, garlic, and saffron are the most commonly used spices. The vegetarian dishes are characterized by a wide variety of vegetables and fruits and use of olive oil for cooking.

There are three main styles of cooking in Spain. They are the Mediterranean cuisine, the northern cuisine, and the southern cuisine. The Mediterranean cuisine is by far the most popular of all these, especially among health professionals. The use of garlic, yoghurt, wheat, olive, and vine makes it very healthy and is popularly known as the Mediterranean Diet. While the northern cuisine is more of a home-style, the southern style emerged from the influence of different traditional cultures of the south. Some of the northern specialties include marmitako and txangurro. Legumes, gofio, and tropical fruits dominate the southern cuisine.

Surprisingly, the amount of food that Spaniards eat in their evening meal is relatively low. This could be because they eat through out the day. However, smaller the evening meal, better it is for health. Tapas are the first choice for an evening meal. It is not the name of a dish, but a way of eating. It could be a tuna, a cocktail onion, or just anything.

An indispensable part of Spanish gastronomy is red wine. You can see a beverage in every occasion. Some famous Spanish drinks are Sangria, sherry, muscatel, etc. All these would quench your thirst and give you a refreshing experience. Though Spain has a wine culture beyond doubt, Spanish beer has also carved its niche in the market. There are tons of varieties of regional beers available. As you move from one place to another, why not taste a different variety of beer every time? Cana, Cruzcampo, etc. are cold brew, but if you want a lighter variety, then clara would be the right choice. Don’t you worry about the place you will find them because they are present everywhere – Spain has a large number of bars and pubs scattered throughout the streets.

Eating out in Spain is a totally different experience. Spanish streets offer the best sandwiches and the meals are very affordable. The awesome recipe offered in the streets is capable of making Spain your permanent place of residence.
